Grant Specialist
Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
This position holds responsibility for fulfilling funding needs of Indiana Public Broadcasting (IPB) News and WFYI through foundation and other grant opportunities, by researching opportunities, applying for grants, ensuring grant deliverables are achieved and reporting is completed effectively. Reporting to the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations, this position is based at WFYI in Indianapolis and will secure grants for Indiana Public Broadcasting News statewide collaboration and WFYI.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for supporting the grant and foundation revenue strategy by researching grant prospect opportunities, applying for grants, working with teams to ensure grant deliverables are achieved and reporting is completed.
Work with Director Corporate & Foundation Relations to support the strategy for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of grants, including prospecting, proposal writing, project management, reporting and evaluation.
Research & Cultivation
Develop a strong understanding of the IPB News and WFYI mission, strategies, work, partners and impact to inform prospecting, proposals, decks and reports.
Build a pipeline of support through research grant opportunities and funders that align with strategic priorities and create profiles for funders, sharing targets and opportunities with director.
Research topics, issues and supporting data relating to IPB News and WFYI strategic priorities to support value proposition and connect research to grant proposal development.
Provide support for cultivation of funders and partners through activities, including impact email writing, thank you letters and event support.
Update audience demographic data in grant reference documents quarterly.
Create and maintain up-to-date language regarding the organizations’ strategic priorities and funding opportunities, including creation of decks, one sheets and other materials.
Proposal Development & Submission
Work with director and internal and IPB stakeholders to write, gather documentation, edit and submit grant proposals.
Maintain proposal calendar, reporting and tracking of the status of grants, submission and reporting deadlines.
Grant Management
Work with director and stakeholders to ensure that grant-funded projects are meeting grant expectations, including support around project management of grants (status check-ins, budget follow-up, interim reports).
Work with director, accounting and relevant program staff on expense approval and monthly budget reconciliation.
Provide project management oversight of smaller funded projects (under $50,000).
Evaluation & Impact
Incorporate relevant data, statistics and metrics in proposals and work with directors, IPB stakeholders and program managers to ensure metrics are understood.
Collect deliverables and impact for reporting.
Maintain and update department files, database on foundations and funders, and comprehensive records for each grant.
Coordinate preparation and submission of all required interim and end of project reporting.

Required Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience unless otherwise noted below.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree communication, non-profit or similar/related field or related years of experience.
At least two years of professional writing experience or demonstrated ability to write concise and compelling content in a variety of voices and tones and the ability to bring a fresh perspective to recurring assignments and topics.
Preferred:
Knowledge and experience in public media, radio, or television
Experience in non-profit, grant writing or communications development
Experience with project management
Education Required
