Job Description

Eyewitness News (WEHT/WTVW) serving the Evansville, Indiana, DMA is looking for a Weekend News Anchor/MMJ. The successful candidate should have strong writing skills, a good on-air presence, including the ability to adlib, and solid news judgement. In addition to becoming the face of our weekend newscasts, we are looking for someone who will be a good newsroom citizen, and act as a mentor to others.
This person in this position will work 3 days a week as an MMJ. Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal, is required. The successful candidate will also be expected to have skills to shoot and edit their own video so that it helps tell the story. The successful candidate will also be expected to be active on social media and to engage with viewers.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver newscasts and news stories accurately, clearly, and concisely.
• Evaluate news leads and develop story ideas for the weekend.
• Make editorial decisions for weekend newscasts.
• Write teases and stories as needed. Copyedit scripts.
• Use social platforms to post content and give updates throughout the evening.
• Report, shoot and edit stories
• Conducts interviews with public officials and members of the public.
• Responds to breaking news and other urgent situations as required.
• Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Writes content for the website and other digital platforms.
• Interacts with viewers/users on social media sites.
• Come to editorial with good, solid, story ideas
Qualifications:
• Must interact positively and productively with employees in the field and the studio.
• Strong news judgment (stay on top of local, regional, national, and international current events and issues)
• Solid vocal delivery, camera presence, and clear enunciation.
• Strong reporting skills.
• Understand the importance of social media.
• Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and organizational skills.

Education Required

Bachelor’s degree is needed
