Artificial Intelligence Essentials for Journalists

A technology tsunami called Artificial Intelligence is coming and no journalist will, or should, avoid it. But you need the skills to detect AI-generated images, videos, audio and text.

The 2024 election season is ripe for disruptors, and around the globe Artificial Intelligence is being used to confuse and mislead voters in more than 60 countries. Your job is about to get a lot more difficult and a lot more important if you know how to defend against “truth decay.”

Sponsored by the Indiana Broadcasters Association, the free in-person seminars for journalists in Indianapolis on September 11 and Fort Wayne on September 12 are now open for registration. Events begin with a 12noon luncheon and will conclude by 3:00PM.

Workshop leader Al Tompkins has trained thousands of journalists worldwide how to spot AI-generated content and how to use Artificial Intelligence in profoundly useful ways — including sorts and understanding massive data bases and preparing for interviews.

In this high-energy fast-pasted workshop you will see real-life examples of the newest AI tools that are generating breathtaking videos and photos. You will learn about the just-launched collection of tools to help journalists detect AI frauds, and you will learn the techniques that will quickly expose AI fakes.

Journalists will also get a peek at the next-generation of AI tools that will launch later this year. That includes new technology that will be embedded on the most common video editing software making it easy for bad actors to create fake video and be virtually undetectable.
